The Mets signed Tejada out of Panama in the summer of 2006. He began playing for the VSL Mets in 2007 and was so successful that the Mets brought him to the US to play in the GCL in July. He played for Panama in the 2009 World Baseball Classic. Tejada was born in Veraguas, Panama.
