box score | stats | standings | schedule GameStar: Carlos Beltran (click here for more on Carlos) Carlos Beltran hit a game tying two-run homer in the 6th, but Scott Schoeneweis and Luis Ayala gave up back to back solo homers in the 8th and the Mets season came to a disappointing end on the final day of the season...again. The Mets signed Beltran to a 7-year, $119M contract on January 9, 2005. He is a 5-tool talent who improves the Mets in all facets of the game. The Royals‘ 2nd-round selection in 1995, Beltran had hit at least 20 home runs, driven in 100 runs, and stolen 30 bases in each of the four seasons before signing with the Mets. The Royals traded him to the Astros in 2004 for financial purposes, setting the stage for his record-setting post-season run with Houston. Beltran is a native of Manati, Puerto Rico. He represented his country in the 2006 WBC and will do so again in 2009.
