Mets Talking Deal For Crisp?
Posted By NYFS Staff
March 12, 2008 -
WFAN's "Eddie C" reported that the Mets are discussing a deal that would send OF Angel Pagan to the Boston Red Sox for OF Coco Crisp, but the Mets and Red Sox say no. Pagan has had a torrid spring so far and was acquired during the offseason in a trade for minor leaguers Corey Coles and Ryan Meyers. He pinch hit and delivered a two-run homer shortly after the rumor broke, meaning that there likely is no deal imminent. The Mets drafted Pagan out of high school in Puerto Rico with their 4th round (136th overall) pick in the 1999 amateur draft. He was DFA in January 2006 and his contract was purchased by the Chicago Cubs. Coco Crisp hit .300 with 18 HR and 15 stolen bases for the Indians in 2005, but has been a .265 hitter for the Sox the last couple of years and has 2 years/$10+M plus an $8M option remaining on his current contract. Crisp is a fantastic defensive player and a switch hitter and would bring additional speed to the Mets lineup, while improving their defense and lineup in Moises Alou's absence.
