Pedro Injures Hammy
Posted By NYFS Staff
April 1, 2008 -
SP Pedro Martinez left Tuesday's game with the Marlins in the 4th inning with an apparent hamstring injury. Reports this morning indicate that Pedro heard 'a pop' at the time of injury and the injury has been preliminarily diagnosed as a hamstring strain. Pedro is heading to New York for an MRI to ascertain the extent of the injury and a prognosis for recovery. In the interim, the Mets have Orlando Hernandez starting for St. Lucie in high A ball on thrusday on a rehab assignment as a possible option to pick up some of Pedro's work load should he be sidelined for awhile. Jorge Sosa who came in to pitch effectively in lieu of Pedro last night, and Nelson Figueroa who was assigtned to New Orleans AAA at the end of camp are other internal options for the Mets.
