Mets Release Sanchez
Posted By NYFS Staff
March 10, 2009 -
The Mets have released Duaner Sanchez early Tuesday morning, after late afternoon meetings yesterday between Sanchez and the Mets.
The Mets acquired Sanchez on January 4, 2006 with Steve Schmoll from the Dodgers for Jae Seo and Tim Hamulack. Sanchez was 4-7 with a 3.73 ERA in 2005 for the Dodgers. In 82 innings he allowed 75 hits, while walking 36 and striking out 71. Prior to his 2006 accident he had a dynamite fastball and sharp breaking ball that held right-handed batters to a feeble .182 batting average against him in 2005. Sanchez was originally signed by Arizona in 1996 out of the DR.
In the six months after the trade from the Dodgers, Sanchez had a dominant first half that season, posting a 5-1 record and 2.60 ERA in 49 appearances. His career with the Mets came to a virtual standstill on July 31, 2006 when he was involved in a traffic accident which separated his right shoulder. Sanchez missed 20 months and required two surgeries. He was activated from the DL on April 15, 2008. He pitched 58.3 innings from April 2008 to the end of the season and posted a 4.32 ERA.
