Thank You from the Cyclones

Posted By NYFS Staff
September 11, 2009 - The 2009 season was another successful one for the Brooklyn Cyclones, both on and off the field, and the team would like to again thank its loyal fans for helping to create the best environment in all of minor league baseball.

The '09 Cyclones led the league in attendance for the ninth straight season, qualified for the playoffs for the sixth time in nine years, garnered national acclaim for some of the season's most creative promotions, featured an outstanding pitching staff that included two of the league's best individual campaigns, tossed the first no-hitter in franchise history, and welcomed stars like Tommy Lasorda, David Wright, Carlos Beltran, and Oliver Perez to Brooklyn.

264,102 fans spun the turnstiles at KeySpan Park this season, for an average of 7,138 fans per game in 37 openings.  The Cyclones were the only team in the league to average over 7,000 fans per game, far outpacing the second-place team (Aberdeen, 6,502).  The 2009 attendance brings Brooklyn's all-time total to over 2.5 million -- 2,607,552 -- in the franchise's first nine seasons.

The Cyclones' 45-30 record was tied for third-best in the NYPL, and Brooklyn was the league's Wild Card winner, advancing to the playoffs.  It was the franchise's second Wild Card berth, to go along with four division titles.

Unique promotions like the "Baracklyn" Cyclones and Bellies & Baseball brought the Cyclones into the national spotlight, with media outlets across the country focusing on the one-of-a-kind entertainment the Cyclones provide.

Brooklyn's pitchers were among the best in the league, with two in particular -- RHP Brandon Moore (2.09) and LHP Mark Cohoon (2.15) -- ranking fifth and sixth, respectively, in the NYPL in ERA.  Cohoon also led the league, and tied a franchise record, with nine wins (9-2).  Moore made history on August 23rd when he threw the first no-hitter in franchise history.

Hall-of-Famer Tommy Lasorda, who played for the Brooklyn Dodgers before building his legacy in Los Angeles, returned to the borough to be honored in a pre-game ceremony.  All-Star third baseman David Wright joined the Cyclones for two days of batting practice as he rehabbed his way back to the Mets, and created some unforgettable memories for some Brooklyn fans.  A week later, All-Star centerfielder Carlos Beltran reported to Brooklyn and played in five games, delivering a game-winning hit in one of them.

The season was further highlighted by premium giveaway nights, spectacular fireworks displays, and countless unforgettable moments.

The Cyclones again thank our fans for making Brooklyn baseball the success that it is, and we look forward to seeing you back in the stands next summer for our landmark 10th season.
