The St. Lucie Mets knocked off the Dunedin Blue Jays by a score of 5-1 Saturday night at Digital Domain Park. The win gave the Mets a 3-1 series victory over the FSL North Division first half winners. The Mets have won seven of their last ten games and are 15-8 on the second half of the season a game ahead of the Bradenton Marauders for first place in the FSL South Division.
The Mets got on the board first plating two runs in the bottom of the first inning on RBI singles by Wilmer Flores and Kai Gronauer. After the Blue Jays cut the lead to 2-1 in the fourth inning, the Mets put the game out of reach scoring three times in the bottom of the fourth to go ahead 5-1 which ended up being the final.
Brad Holt got the start for the Mets and danced around trouble most of the night. The Blue Jays stranded two runners on base in three of Holt's five innings. Holt's only mistake was a solo home run off the bat of Brian Van Kirk. Holt held the Jays in check striking out seven batters in his five innings of work recording the win and improving to 2-2 with the St. Lucie Mets. Wilmer Flores had a big night at the plate for the Mets going 3-for-4 driving in four runs and scoring once. Hector Pellot added three hits of his own while scoring once and Luis Castillo had a hit and scored twice in the Mets 5-1 victory.
The Mets hit the road on Sunday and head to Clearwater to take on the Threshers. Kyle Allen gets the start for the Mets. Allen goes into the game with a team leading six wins to his credit. In seventeen appearances, fifteen starts, Allen has a 5.23 ERA with 49 strikeouts while opposing hitters are batting .274 against him.
